Man arrested, suspected of fatal University Place shooting

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies Thursday night arrested a man suspected in the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Phillip Little, spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Little died May 20. His body was found near South 56th and Orchard streets, down an embankment. Troyer said the area is known to law enforcement as a place where drug deals often happen.

Little’s vehicle was parked nearby.

Witnesses reported seeing two men in baseball hats fleeing the area.

Further details about the arrest were not immediately available.

“Detectives are still out working,” Troyer said. “By midday tomorrow, we expect to have more information.”

The man was booked into jail just after 7 p.m.
