A German shepherd rescued from a house fire in Lakewood last week is recovering well, according to West Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 5700 block of 110th Street SW about 9:40 p.m. Friday and extinguished the blaze. The residents safely escaped before crews arrived but their dog was found unresponsive in the house. Firefighters performed CPR on the pooch and gave it oxygen then took it to an animal hospital.

The dog is expected to survive.
