A 30-year-old Goldendale man was killed late Tuesday after fleeing from Puyallup Tribal Police and rolling his car on the northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp at Port of Tacoma Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
Police tried to pull over the suspected drunken drivers 2012 Ford Fusion about 11:15 p.m. but the driver refused to stop. Officers initiated a pursuit but eventually stopped the chase because of safety reasons.
The driver, who was allegedly speeding, then rolled his car on the on-ramp to Port of Tacoma Road. The vehicle landed on its top.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, a 24-year-old Pacific woman and a 26-year-old man, were taken to Tacoma General Hospital with unknown injuries. The man's injuries are life-threatening.
Investigators closed the on-ramp and off-ramp for nearly four hours while collecting evidence and clearing the accident scene.
