Road work begins Monday on Olympic National Park road

Visitors to the Lake Crescent area should plan on minor delays starting Monday is they will be driving on East Beach Road.

Federal Highways will be drilling road core samples on East Beach Road, U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent and in the Sol Duc Trailhead parking lot.

People might face delays of up to 15 minutes on East Beach Road along the north shore of Lake Crescent starting Monday, and on U.S. 101 at Lake Crescent as early as July 7. Sections of the Sol Duc Trailhead parking lot will be closed as of Monday. The work is expected to run through mid-July, depending on the weather.

The core samples are being drilled to assess the roads’ subgrade soils for proposed repairs and resurfacing, according to a news release from Olympic National Park.

The two roads will stay open throughout the work period. To accommodate construction equipment and provide for public safety, the roads will be reduced to one-lane of traffic through work zones, leading to the delays of up to 15 minutes. Flaggers will guide motorists through the construction areas. The work will take place only on weekdays between 7 a.m.-6 p.m. No holiday or weekend work is scheduled.

Current road information is available by calling Olympic National Park’s recorded information line at 360-565-3131 or online .
