Jim Lambright, the former University of Washington football coach, was arrested last week after a complaint that he assaulted his granddaughter at his home in Snohomish.

Lambright, 72, has not been charged. According to KIRO-TV, Lambright was booked into Snohomish County jail early June 19 and was released later the same day.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call on June 18 at Lambright’s home after a woman complained that “the grandfather had assaulted a family member,” according to court documents.

Lambright and three women were standing outside the home when deputies arrived. Lambright told the deputies that he didn’t understand why his granddaughters visit so often, that he was “sick of their attitudes,” and that after he asked his granddaughter to leave and she refused, he grabbed her by the arms “to force her out of the residence.”

The granddaughter, who was born in 1990, according to court documents, told deputies that she was at the home visiting her father, who lives there, and Lambright had “suddenly exploded on her” and grabbed her by the arms, pulled her to the kitchen floor and tried to drag her out of the home. She broke free and ran outside to call 911.

Lambright’s wife of 34 years, Lynne, told deputies that Lambright suffers from dementia and “explosive disorder” and that his condition is worsening. She also said Lambright “has consistently pushed and shoved her over the course of their marriage,” adding that “she is truly a battered wife, both physically and verbally,” according to court documents.

Deputies confiscated three rifles from the residence for “safekeeping.”

Lambright, a native of Everett, was head coach of UW from 1993-1998, compiling a record of 44-25-1. He also played at UW and was an assistant coach from 1969-1992, serving as defensive coordinator under coach Don James beginning in 1977.
