The sun will make itself known Tuesday as temperatures spike into the mid-80s, possibly making it the warmest day of the year.

It won’t last for long though.

Forecasters said the high in Tacoma is expected to be 86 degrees but the rest of the week will drop back into the 70s.

“It’s just warm for one day,” Art Gable, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Seattle office, said Monday.

The hottest day of the year so far was 85 degrees, recorded May 1 at Sea-Tac Airport. There’s a chance Tuesday could beat that, but the weather won’t be setting any lasting records.

Even if the high hits 86 Tuesday, that’s still three degrees shy of breaking the record for the warmest July 1. The record for that date is 89 degrees, set in 2013.

Those looking to keep cool can head to one of Tacoma’s 10 spraygrounds, which are open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The spraygrounds are at:

* Jefferson Park, 801 N. Mason Ave.

* Titlow Park, 8425 Sixth Ave.

* Franklin Park, 1201 S. Puget Sound

* Kandle Park, 2323 N. Shirley St.

* Verlo Playfield, 4321 McKinley Ave.

* Norpoint Park, 4818 Nassau Ave. NE

* Wright Park, 501 S. I St.

* Wapato Park, 6231 S. Wapato St.

* South Park, 4851 South Tacoma Way.

* SERA Campus, 6002 S. Adams St.
