UPDATE as of 3:45 p.m. Crews finished putting out the fire and cleared the scene.

INITIAL POST: Firefighters were working to put out a brush fire Tuesday on the hillside along northbound Interstate-5 in Federal Way.

Tacoma Fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said crews from Tacoma, East Pierce Fire & Rescue and South King Fire & Rescue were working to put out the fire, which started about 1:45 p.m near South 375th Street.

“It’s a fairly large fire,” Meinecke said, though he didn’t have a good sense of the exact size. “It’s contained to that hillside next to the freeway.”

No one was hurt.

What caused the fire is still being investigated, Meinecke said, adding: “As the weather heats up it’s drying things out here.”
