Auburn woman pleads not guilty to charges she abandoned baby, toddler

KIRO-TVJuly 2, 2014

An Auburn woman accused of leaving her 1- and 3-year-old children alone for five days pleaded not guilty to abandonment charges Wednesday.

Detectives said 23-year-old Qiara Te Dennis left her children on June 9 and was arrested in Cowlitz County the next day for allegedly driving with a suspended license.

Police said Emerson didn’t tell anyone her children were home alone, and they were left unsupervised in her Auburn apartment.

They were there for four more days, until neighbors heard the 3-year-old crying and clawing at a second-story window.

Detectives found the children crying, hungry and covered in filth and feces, they said.

Emerson’s bail was set at $100,000.
