Schafer State Park hosts family picnic July 19

Staff writerJuly 16, 2014

The Friends of Schafer State Park and park staff will host an old-fashioned family picnic Saturday at Schafer State Park.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park’s large community shelter.

Park visitors will be able enjoy free hamburgers, bratwurst and beverages. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish to share. There also will be kids’ activities.

A Discover Pass will be required to enter the park. If you do not have one, they will be on sale at the park. They are $10 a day or $30 for a year.

The 119-acre park sits on the banks of the Satsop River, offering the chance to fish for salmon, steelhead and cutthroat trout. The river is shallow as it flows through the park, making it ideal for wading and swimming. There are 2 miles of hiking trails and more than 50 campsites.

The park is at 1365 W. Schafer Park Road, Elma. For more information, call 360-902-8844.
