Tracking Ryan Moore at the British Open

Staff writerJuly 16, 2014

This week: The British Open, Thursday through Sunday, Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, England

World ranking: 40th

British Open appearances: This will be Moore’s fifth.

Best British Open finish: Tied for 28th at the 2011 British Open at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England (8-over-par 288).

Outlook: For most young American golfers, it takes a while to acclimate to links-style golf. But Moore’s top finish at the British Open is his highest among the four major championships, and he has made the cut three out of four times. Royal Liverpool is considered to be one of the fairer tests on the British Open’s rotation of courses, and golfers were greeted by more lush conditions than they are used to at this tournament. This straightforward shotmaker’s dream course should fit Moore’s game. Expect at least a top-30 finish this week.

First-round tee time: Moore was scheduled to tee off at 11:53 p.m. (PDT) Wednesday.
