A semitrailer truck crashed on state Route 512 early Thursday morning, tipping over and spilling 46,000 pounds of scrap metal across all lanes near the Pioneer Avenue interchange in Puyallup, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Nobody was hurt in the 1:30 a.m. accident..

All eastbound lanes of state Route 512 were closed for four hours while crews cleaned up and investigated the incident.

Troopers said the driver, a 49-year-old Puyallup man, might have fallen asleep behind the wheel. He faces a second-degree negligent driving charge.

The 1998 Freightliner was traveling west when it hit the cable barrier and tipped onto its side in the median, spilling its load.
