A disabled South Hill teen who wandered away from her home Wednesday, prompting a search by Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies, was found late that night.
Patti Washburn, 16, was found in the 400 block of Valley Avenue – miles from her home in the 13400 block of 115th Avenue East. She walked away from home at 11:30 a.m.
“We think she walked 150 blocks,” said sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.
Washburn was alone and unhurt. Police were still questioning her about her movements throughout the day.
The teen has the mental capacity of an 8-year-old, according to a police statement.
“The good news is, she just decided to go somewhere, totally out of character for her,” Troyer said.
A team of volunteers, including off-duty Seattle police officers related to the girl’s family, joined in the search.
