WASHINGTON – It’s simply not true that America is ambivalent about everything when it comes to the Obama health plan.
“We (should) wrap him in bacon and deep fry him at a state fair while Lee Greenwood stabs him in the face.”
Early in 1975, I found myself seated on a cross-country flight next to a green new senator from Ohio named John Glenn. And he wasn’t green because he was airsick.
WASHINGTON — For late-19th-century anarchists, terrorism was the “propaganda of the deed.” The most successful propaganda-by-deed in history was 9/11 — the most destructive, the most spectacular and telegenic.

Eventually, some clever composer will write a blockbuster musical about her life and times. Stage directions will include: “SARAH fires gun. MOOSE dies.”
The first piece of my writing I recall being published was a letter to the editor of my local paper regarding a very public struggle between some community members and the school board. The point I made was that the needs of the students were being overlooked in the midst of the debate. Everyone involved declared their support of education, but “support” and “education” meant different things to each party.
What a surprise – that someone who shouts “Allahu Akbar” (the “God is great” jihadist battle cry) as he is shooting up a room of American soldiers might have Islamist motives. It certainly was a surprise to the mainstream media, which spent the weekend after the Fort Hood massacre playing down Nidal Hasan’s religious beliefs.
They killed a killer last week.
As Thanksgiving draws near I think about short Italians, about hunger and about two oddly memorable meals.
