Re: the story about the five emaciated horses found on a logging road near Elbe (TNT, 11-20).
There are times when new blood, new visions and new constituencies need a voice and a city calls for it. Tacoma needs to consolidate the momentum of the new inclusive vision of her new mayor and bring in the most diverse City Council we have known here.
Re: “Court lacked common courtesy” (letter, 11-17).
Re: “Race to the top in education? Who, us?” (editorial, 11-16).
As the youngest member of a family of nine, six of whom voluntarily served in the armed forces during time of war, I am deeply appalled by the Obama administration’s plan to bring 9/11 terrorists to America and give them the same legal rights as those in the military have.
Yes, it’s true there is no single gene that can be identified as a precursor to homosexuality (letter, 11-12), but the same is also true for left-handedness. Just ask the mother of identical twins where one is left-handed and the other is right-handed – identical genetic makeup differentiated only by the dominant hand. Still, we stopped beating left-handed students for their failure to be right-handed well over 100 years ago. Sadly, we have not been as flexible where sexuality is concerned.
I was just remembering the media blitz aimed at George Bush, how he was an idiot, uninformed, no gravitas and other such criticisms. In spite of all those accusations, he was able to win two elections, manipulate the stock market and fool Congress into going into two wars. He was labeled as one of the dumbest presidents ever.
Re: “Heart attack claims Puyallup leader” (TNT, 11-20).
Re: “Obama-Clinton Middle East strategy is a disaster” (Joel Brinkley column, 11-18).
Re: Congressman Dave Reichert’s concern about the lobbying influence of AARP (TNT, 11-15).
Vince Baird’s Your Voice (TNT, 11-18) regarding the funeral processions for police and fire personnel was thoughtful and poignant. I appreciate the view of the editorial objecting to the length of the procession (11-12) – that was a touchy topic and took guts to write – but Baird is correct in his statements about being human, the grief process, and the shared and unique bond that develops in these trades.
“Eat Local for Thanksgiving” week has officially begun, as proclaimed by the Pierce County executive and County Council on Tuesday to recognize the regionwide, buy-local campaign sponsored by Puget Sound Fresh.
Re: “Obama suffers by comparison” (letter, 11-19).
Re: “More building loans in default” (TNT, 11-5).
