That big sound you just heard? It’s a Tacoma Public Schools building boom

Tacoma Public Schools is in the midst of a building boom. Two new schools — one a renovated historic building — will open during the upcoming school year. So will the next phase of Wilson High School. More projects are in the pipeline, thanks to a $500 million bond measure approved by Tacoma voters in 2013.

The Washington State Fair in Puyallup will henceforth run 21 days and start on Labor Day weekend – good changes, both. But in the long run, fair officials should chew on a basic question: Can working-class people continue to afford to take their families there?

Tenino vandalism victim discusses racist graffiti

Volunteers in Tenino recently painted over racist graffiti on Marvin Phillips' house and truck. Mayor Wayne Fournier announced Aug. 23 that Sunset Chevrolet in Sumner has pledged to repair, restore or replace the Phillips family truck, as volunteers were unable to erase the spray paint inside of and on the vehicle.
