Tacoma student seeks state title in Poetry Out Loud contest

A student from Life Christian Academy in Tacoma is a Puget Sound regional winner of the Poetry Out Loud competition. On March 4, she’ll compete against 12 other regional student winners for the state title in an event at Broadway Center for the Performing Arts in Tacoma

Free speech does not include discrimination

The debate over whether conservative religious wedding vendors have the right to refuse services for same-sex marriage ceremonies has been silenced, at least for the time being. The Washington Supreme Court correctly reaffirmed that it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.

Problem motel in Lakewood to be demolished

Lakewood's Golden Lion Motel, for years a source of concern in the community because of frequent criminal disturbances, building code violations and unsafe living conditions, is scheduled to be demolished within the next month. Lakewood Building Abatement Program Manager Jeff Gumm points out the building's defects and dangerous flaws that led to the city's demand the building be razed.
