While snow is making the three-day weekend a challenge for many motorists, it’s a treat for skiers and snowboarders. Although one popular snow destination, Mount Rainier’s Paradise, is closed today.
Crystal Mountain Resort is offering discounts in January to encourage new skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes as part of a nationwide initiative with the National Ski Areas Association.
The Snow Play Area at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park opened Saturday afternoon. The road from Longmire to Paradise opened earlier in the day, according to the park's Twitter feed.
Crystal Mountain has best day of young season, and a series of vigorous frontal systems is predicted to hit western Washington in the days ahead.
Crystal Mountain buzzed with activity Thursday as ski patrollers marked runs, cooks loaded freezers and the beer man rolled kegs off his truck, all in preparation for Friday's season opening.
