Volunteers are needed to join Cape Disappointment State Park, Grass Roots Garbage Gang and the Washington Clean Coast Alliance in the Long Beach Peninsula’s annual July 5th Cleanup.
Volunteers should meet cleanup organizers at major beach approaches at 9:30 a.m. July 5. Meeting sites are at Seaview, Sid Snyder (10th Street), Bolstad, Cranberry, Klipsan, Ocean Park and Oysterville.
The Grass Roots Garbage Gang is a group of more than 200 citizens and 28 groups including local residents, regular beach visitors and local businesses, according to a press release from the alliance. The effort was organized in 2000 in response to massive amounts of trash washing in with winter storms. In 2007, the Grass Roots Garbage Gang removed more than 16.25 tons of garbage from Long Beach beaches.
