Campgrounds at Gifford Pinchot expected to open by late June
The Gifford Pinchot National Forest’s high-elevation campgrounds, such as Takhlakh Lake, Olallie Lake, Chain-of-Lakes and Walput Lake, are scheduled to open by late June.
Much of the forest’s high country is still under a blanket of snow.
Here’s an update on some key roads in the forest:
Forest Road 25: From Randle to the Lewis River Highway; should be open by mid-June.
Forest Road 52: Between Ashford and Packwood; scheduled to open by mid-June.
Forest Road 99: Goes from Forest Road 25 to the Windy Ridge viewpoint on the east side of Mount St. Helens; scheduled to open by late June.
