Free nature fest features fun events

Visitors to the 19th annual Nisqually Watershed Festival will have the chance to enjoy music, food, guided walks, educational displays and more on Saturday.

Among the activities will be an opening blessing by members of the Nisqually Tribe at 9:55 a.m. There will be programs on reptiles, tribal drumming and dancing and music from a number of groups.

There also will be guided tours along the river, as well as birds walks and a tour of the Nisqually Reach Nature Center. For children, the activities include a marine touch tank and the Red Salmon Tent.

The free festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, 100 Brown Farm Road, Olympia. The refuge is off Interstate 5 at Exit 114.

The event is sponsored by the refuge, tribe, nature center, Nisqually River Council, Nisqually River Foundation, state Department of Ecology, Tacoma Power, Friends of the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge and Red Wind Casino.
