The early hours of Tuesday morning will be the best time to see the Perseid meteor shower.

People can expect to see 60 to 90 meteors per hour at its peak after the moon sets in the early morning, according to a news release from Astronomy magazine.

The best time to spot the meteor shower will be around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. If the forecast calls for cloudy skies that day, look for a decent show a day or two before and after.

The Perseids result when Earth’s atmosphere runs into debris ejected by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.

A dark sky will provide the best viewing conditions. Experts recommend being at least 40 miles away from light-polluted cities.
