Tonight’s opening night of Disney’s “Beauty and The Beast” at the Paramount Theatre has been postponed due to weather, Seattle Theatre Group just announced.

John Munn, a local actor, director and entrepreneur, has just been named Lakewood Playhouse’s new permanent artistic director. The 73-year-old community theater, located in the Lakewood Towne Center mall, lost its director of nearly 10 years, Marcus Walker, when Walker died of cancer early last year. Munn had been temporary managing artistic director since last February.

After 75 years of offering classical music in Tacoma, the Tacoma Philharmonic is merging into the Broadway Center for Performing Arts, the nonprofit organization that manages the City of Tacoma’s downtown theaters.

“Play It Again, Sam” at Lakewood Playhouse is in many respects a typical Woody Allen tale, full of urban angst and featuring a frustrated and bumbling Woody Allen avatar. It’s a small comedy of romantic absurdity filled with hyperbole and wittily pseudo-sophisticated dialogue.

It's 7 a.m. on a Thursday, and Heidi Knickerbocker is heading to school. She has a much longer commute than most Tacoma high school students. Knickerbocker, from Port Orchard, has been carpooling to Tacoma's School of the Arts for more than two years because she believes it's giving her the best education offered in the region.

The first time Ashley Phan saw “The Nutcracker” ballet, it was in Seattle. Like many little girls, she saw the glorious costumes and magical Sendak-designed set of the Pacific Northwest Ballet production, and was hooked.
