Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. is targeting environmentally conscious homeowners with a new product that would cover the cost of rebuilding a home to green standards. The company unveiled the plan Tuesday, offering the green coverage option in several states. The Novato, Calif.-based company already has received clearance to sell the optional coverage in 26 states, including Washington.

The green coverage is an add-on to the company’s top-tier homeowners package. It would cost about $25 a year.
