BANKING/FINANCEBrad Canfield has joined 1st Security Bank of Washington in Tacoma as chief financial officer. He worked for BECU for 20 years, most recently as vice president finance/administration and chief financial officer. Canfield has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Gonzaga University and is a certified public accountant.
Drew Ness has also joined 1st Security Bank of Washington as chief operating officer. He most recently served as vice president and manager of the Corporate Deposit Operations Department for Washington Federal Savings, following its acquisition of First Mutual Bank. Ness has 18 years of banking experience, including retail branch sales and service, branch network management, and national customer service training experience.

Harlowe & Falk LLP of Tacoma announced Annie Bernhard has joined the firm as an associate. The firm practices in the areas of business, real estate, trusts and estates, and tax law, as well as bank operations, regulatory compliance and consumer financial services. Bernhard is a law graduate of Gonzaga University.

Orting Chamber of Commerce has hired Rhonda Madison as its executive director. She will be responsible for the oversight of chamber programs and activities, including public affairs, community partnerships supporting economic vitality and sustainability, marketing/public relations, chamber member services, government advocacy, tourism related products/services, and promotions and events. Madison is a past board member of the Orting and Enumclaw Chambers of Commerce and has worked for more than 20 years in newspaper and radio advertising and management for daily and weekly publications in Washington and Idaho.
WEB SITE DESIGN AND APPLICATION DEVELOPMENTKirk Solar has joined the staff at SiteCrafting of Tacoma as a web application developer. He is a recent graduate of Clover Park Technical College where he studied Web design and open source development.
AWARDS/RECOGNITION
Robert Fulton, Valley Water District commissioner of Puyallup, received the Commissioners Accreditation Award, the final level of achievement with the Washington Association of Sewer & Water Districts. The award is given in recognition for continuing the Commissioner Accreditation Guidelines in the Washington Association of Sewer and Water Districts Leadership Development Program.
The leadership courses are designed to help commissioners develop skills to assist in leadership growth, strengthen and develop the ability to formulate good public policy, and enhance and improve their personal leadership skills and effectiveness.
Safe Streets Tacoma has recognized Darren Pen, a community mobilization specialist, with the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative “Local Hero” Award. It recognizes community leaders who make significant contributions to the health of our neighborhoods. Pen was among five people from the Puget Sound region to receive the award, and was selected for his work with immigrants from Southeast Asia, China, Russia and Latin America, as well as his history of helping Tacoma residents reclaim crime-ridden neighborhoods.
