Four months after it opened, The Town is bringing new life to The City.
The Town opened Jan. 24 in the space most recently occupied by the Backstage Bar & Grill on Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue. The multi-genre music venue is run by Freddie “Fingerz” Darden, Herschel Veal Jr. and Dave Regenfuss.
The Town has seen shows by T-Fly, comedian Kirk McHenry, a Valentine’s Day event, a battle of the bands, a beat battle and live band karaoke among others.
“They have screens, a full band, they know all the songs,” Darden said of live karaoke band Rock-Bot which plays The Town on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
In addition to music, The Town hosts events and private parties.
The venue features a raised central stage with a newly installed sound and mixing board, two bars, a floor that holds 300-600 people and eventually a kitchen. The three business partners have a two-year lease.
On Tuesday, The Town hosts singer/songwriter Kara Hesse and her “The Road Home” tour.
Hesse, a pianist and guitar player, blends blues, pop and rock. She has opened for B.B. King, Al Green and Buddy Guy. At The Town, she’ll be joined by Tacoma’s Stephanie Anne Johnson, a contestant on NBC’S “The Voice,” and Seattle guitarist Ayron Jones from Ayron Jones and the Way.
