Call them the homegrown version of mall staple Mrs. Fields cookies.
Tucked into a corner of the South Hill Mall food court is a superpower team-up of local dessert companies Tacoma Cheesecake and Wanna Cupcake.
The companies will offer their cupcakes and cheesecake bars at the mall food court through the holidays.
Jim and Karie Romano, who operate the Puyallup-based cupcake company, say they have the same lineup of cupcakes at the mall cafe as they do in their downtown Puyallup store.
Those flavors include red velvet, chocolate, raspberry, birthday cake and holiday flavors, such as peppermint mocha and eggnog. Don’t miss the apple-pie flavored cupcake with a heavy whiff of cinnamon or the salted caramel with a creamy tower of buttercream frosting.
Cupcakes are $3.25 to $3.50 each. Scones, cookies and muffins also available, as well as espresso.
Danelle Hillman’s Tacoma Cheesecake offers seven versions of chocolate-dipped cheesecake bars. The seasonal pumpkin was rich and creamy and the Roc-n-Bliss tasted like a cheesecake version of Almond Roca.Single bars are $4 or a half dozen for $20.
Gluten-free tip: Both Wanna Cupcake and Tacoma Cheesecake offer gluten-free desserts.
The walk-up dessert booth will keep the same hours as the mall.
