TwoKoi Japanese Cuisine in downtown Tacoma is planning a June reopening.
“For sure it will be before the U.S. Open,” said Jeannie Han, manager and certified sake specialist at TwoKoi, the restaurant that opened in 2006 adjacent to University of Washington Tacoma.
The restaurant closed in November after a construction project began just steps from TwoKoi’s front door.
At the time of the closure, there was an indication the restaurant might be revamped. So far, that hasn’t manifested in any physical changes. However, Han said co-owner and executive chef Jackie Young Koh is working on menu changes. “He’s thinking about getting rid of some older items that aren’t as popular. We’re adding tapas dishes for happy hour.”
The restaurant plans to open with an early afternoon happy hour, but won’t have lunch service in the opening weeks. However, lunch service will eventually return, said Han.
Han, who runs the restaurant’s extensive sake program, said she’ll have more sake choices than ever. “We’re adding a lot more craft cocktails. I’ve been working on that for the last five months; the bar is something I’m looking forward to boosting up a little bit,” she said.
