I worked in a pan-Asian restaurant where all the cooks were Mexican. Their version of Thai beef curry tasted like my Mexican dad's chile colorado.
So pardon my gustatory gobsmack over Viva Mexico's chicken and mole.
I dropped into the month-old DuPont restaurant the other night for a first bite. I hadn't and have not eaten at Viva Mexico's other locations, in White Center and in Des Moines.
I eyed chicken and mole. The menu told me it was a "different peanut sauce." I ordered it nonetheless.
Here's what my server said when I wrinkled my nose in response to her asking how I liked the mole:
"It's like the stuff you dip those wrapped up Asian vegetable things in."
I think she was talking about spring rolls.
I was tasting pad thai con pollo.
