On opening night Tuesday, Elysian Fields was a godsend for the Mariners, who snapped an 11-game losing streak. On Wednesday night, the Mariners crawled back to their American League Hades.
But Elysian Brewing Co.'s new restaurant and brewery flashed rookie promise on its second night near Seattle's stadiums.
At 10,000 square feet, Elysian Fields accommodates more than 400 diners and drinkers. Three roll-up doors in the dining room facing Elysian Fields' Occidental Street entrance are virtually on the 1-yard-line of Qwest Field's northwest gate. Safeco Field isn't far away.
But Elysian Fields is no mere colossal pub catering to sports fans. Elysian's eyes are on the neighborhood's current condo dwellers and condo buyers to be named later.
I had dinner at the bar Wednesday night. Here's what I found scribbled on a napkin when I got home:
place big / nice ... open wood beams / soaring wood columns ... light dim-ish / hazy / but walls color Seahawks' jerseys / swear ... walls need art ... arty concrete floor / wood tables, brown padded banquettes ... brushed stainless steel bar / big 2-sided bar wraps around ... servers in black ... brewing equip. not operate / construction equip. on floor ... only 4 TVs ... big/dark/hip lounge off to side ... expect DJs? ... Elysian honcho Dick Cantwell eat steak & fries @ bar w/ brew buds ... menu: paninis / brats/ burgers ... pastas ... steak frites / steak sandwich ... salmon ... steak sandwich good – sirloin chunks / slice before grilling ... cook medium: pretty & pink ... like horseradish aioli/blue cheese ... ran out potato-leek soup ... Caesar so-so ... fries cold ... glass sinks in bathroom cool ... all Elysian standard beers + "guest drafts" / Hoegaarden Belgian wit / La Chouffe golden ale / Bitburger / New Belgium saison / Coors / MDG ... i like wine list
Elysian Fields serves lunch and dinner. It's located at 542 First Ave. S.
Update: As a reader noted in a comment, Elysian Fields is currently pouring beer from Elysian's Capitol Hill and Tangletown tanks. "Under-construction" is definitely part of the current decor.
