Just as South Sound restaurateurs Gordon and Steve Naccarato have begun a new chapter in the life of The Beach House, the brothers closed the book on a Tacoma wine bar/tapas concept they say got too pricey to build.
Mariel was to occupy ground-floor space and part of the plaza next to the Courtyard Marriott hotel. The Naccaratos said Mariel's budget hit $2.5 million -- $1 million more than it cost them to build Pacific Grill, a few doors down the downtown drag.
They said they'll focus on Pacific Grill and Margarita Beach Cafe (aka "Hey, wasn't that The Beach House?").
Restaurateurs interested in the space that wasn't Mariel can find the number for the commercial real estate broker representing the property in the windows along Pacific Avenue.
