Have you done all of your Christmas hopping? It's still cold outside and there are still plenty of winter warmers to be enjoyed.
Doyle's winter tasting takes place all day Thursday. Here's what'll be on tap: Gouden Carolus Noel, Achouffe N'Ice Chouffe, Scaldis Noel, Saison Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux, Grimbergen, Delirium Noel and (if available) Samichlaus.
Elysian Fields' runs Monday through Saturday. Elysian will pour everything Doyle's will (except Samichlus). It will also feature its own Elysian Bete Noel, as well as St. Feuillien Noel and De Dolle Stille Nacht. De Dolle Stille Nacht is from 2002; all others are 2006 releases.
In case you missed it, here's The News Tribune Brew Crew's winter warmer taste test. In case you want to share your views, here's a winter beer quiz.
UPDATE 12/20: Dave at Doyle's told me last night that Samichlus ain't coming to town.
UPDATE 12/22: Does anyone who drank at Doyle's on Thursday care to comment? I've posted some of my tasting thoughts in the comments section.
While one of Ed's Diner readers, Knuckles, regards Samichlus like some people regard fruitcake, there's good news for those of us who still believe in fruitcake: Doyle's has two kegs of Samichlus on order for next year.
