Here are some leftovers from my Breakfast A to Z reporting:
I was the first person in the door the morning I checked out the $18 buffet at Zephyr Grill & Bar in Kent Station.
I got there just after 10, the hour the place opened. Several buffet items had yet to be brought out. The hostess and a waitress helped themselves to what was on the buffet while I waited for eggs Benedict (pretty good for buffet, and better than the Lobster shop's poached eggs on hockey pucks). I was told the manager had to run out for maple syrup. My pale French toast was cold by the time the syrup arrived.
Restaurant folks, if I want to simply sit and spread out the Sunday New York Times, I'll do it in my dining room. When you let customers in the door for any meal, be ready for them. That's all I ask.
On the bright side, I had plenty of time to enjoy the super-moist carrot cake bread pudding.
