Buy, taste and learn to grow and cook with lavender this weekend at the Vashon Lavender Festival. The event is Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12 at three farms on the island - Fox Farm, Lavender Sister and Lavender Hill.

Lorelle Sherer will demonstrating cooking fresh mission figs with goat cheese and lavender, nectarine and red onion salad with lavender and wild rice and dried cherry pilaf with lavender at 10 a.m. July 11 and 3:30 p.m. July 12. She'll hand out recipes from a cookbook at her demonstration.
Chef BJ Duft, who recently opened Fresh Bistro in West Seattle, will demonstrate how to cook chicken skewers with herbs de Provence dipping sauce, salmon with lavender and lavender gelato at 2 p.m. July 12.
For eating at the farm: The Hardware Store restaurant will serve savory lunches and honey lavender waffle cones.
Denise Kitchel will talk about baking with lavender. Her demos will be every hour starting at 11 a.m.
For eating at the farm: Light snacks from Emily Vogt.
LAVENDER HILL FARM:
Chef Melissa Grimaldi will have a cooking demonstration at 2 p.m. July 11 and 12.
For eating at the farm: MonkeyTree will serve vegetarian savories and pastries. Lavender earl grey tea, lavender lemonade and cookies also will be available.

No driving required: Mainland visitors can walk onto any morning ferry to Vashon that weekend, starting at 9:30 a.m. and pick up a shuttle.
Shuttle info: Shuttles will loop among the three farms, through downtown Vashon, the farmers market. Buses will return visitors to the ferry docks from 2:30–5:30 pm.
