Remember that cookie store at Frieghthouse Square - Cookies Your Way? It was hard to miss, especially if you're the type who is drawn to the smell of freshly baked cookies. It was disappointing when the store closed last March and took that wonderful cookie scent with it.
A year later, Cookies Your Way has resurfaced. I found it in a warehouse in Puyallup. And it's open to the public. Owner Christine Johnson took a hiatus before relocating her store to South Hill from Freighthouse Square. She spent months looking for a new location, thought she found it once or twice, but the leases never worked for her.
A friend told her about a small space in the Maxi-Space Warehouse at 147th and Meridian. It's somewhat difficult to find, it's tucked between a row of storage spaces. If you have a good sense of smell, your nose might just take you there. Otherwise, just look for the sign.
Fans of Johnson's cookie shop at Freighthouse will recognize all the same cookies in the same configurations - the M&M, the chocolate chip, the triple chunk, the peanut butter and tuxedo. They're still an inexpensive indulgence and they're still sweet and delicious. Johnson's four children still help out at the store - Autumn, Amberly, Micah and Caleb. The setup is similar to the Freighthouse location - a display case full of Johnson's cookies and a few tables for nibbling. She might host cookie decorating parties at the store, she hasn't decided yet.
