Coming to downtown Puyallup - a new pub called Travellers at 208 S. Meridian. It's opening in the space that formerly housed Northwest Vintage's downtown location on Meridian, which closed in March (the South Hill Northwest Vintage remains open).
I'm still waiting for a reply from the owners (I started leaving messages in March). (CORRECTION: I received a Facebook reply from the owners) but Northwest Vintage owner Nicola McDonald, who sold the building to the new tenants, told me the pub would be themed Irish. I popped in anonymously last week on a summery afternoon, along with a small crowd of people who also were wandering into the restaurant that had its front door flung wide open. A worker was taking measurements and building materials were stacked everywhere. It appeared more tile work and other infrastructure repair was needed, but the footprint of the pub looks to be in place. A menu on a table showed food with an Irish spin - lamb and beef Shepherd's pie, Guinness beef stew, corned beef sliders, Irish nachos, and Irish soda bread.
You might be wondering about that other Irish themed pub in downtown Puyallup - the one that is a block away? Twisted Kilt is still operating and about to celebrate its first anniversary. As for other Irish themed pubs in the region, there are just a few - Doyle's in the St. Helens neighborhood, Paddy O'Coyne's in downtown Tacoma and McNamara's in Dupont.
Travellers applied for a liquor permit in March under the business name Whoriskey's Travellers Irish Pub.
UPDATE 6/11: I've been in touch with the owners via Facebook and email and they said they'll be doing business as Travellers Rest Irish Pub. They also said via a Facebook message that the interior is still under construction.
