Blue Agave Mexican Grill & Tequila Bar was expected to open this afternoon at Gig Harbor’s Uptown Center. The casual restaurant has a menu of build-your-own burritos, as well as sopes, fajitas, tacos and tortas. Think of it as something like a Qdoba Grill, only with a more robust menu and a full tequila bar.
The restaurant is cordoned off into seating for families and sectioned-off bar seating where the tequila is served. I took a quick look at the menu and saw some promising things: fish tacos, ceviche, tamales, chile rellenos and pescado dorado. The build-your-own burritos start with four tortilla choices, six fillings, and more than a dozen toppings.
Prices are around $10 for most entrees. Tacos are individually priced at $2.49. Kids meals are $4.99. You order at the counter and find your own seat. There's a salsa bar at the rear of the restaurant.
A quick look at the tequila bar found 100 kinds of tequila and mescal - and many bottles rivaled what's offered at Tacoma's Matador.
Has anyone noticed that Uptown is home to the hybrid order-at-the-counter and seat-yourself restaurant model? Blazing Onion and Pizzeria Fondi - both nearby- are the same style of restaurants.
