A delay with a liquor license transfer meant a delay for tiki drinks and pupu platters in downtown Tacoma, but now that wait is over. Tacoma Cabana owner Robyn Murphy announced the liquor license has been granted and the downtown restaurant and lounge will open Wednesday at 4 p.m. The restaurant did have a soft opening for a downtown pub crawl over the weekend (they served food, not cocktails).
Tacoma Cabana is the project of Murphy and Jason Alexander, who operated Villa Cafe and Imbibery from January 2010 until this summer when they shut down their sandwich cafe and lounge to prep for their move downtown to 728 Pacific Ave. With a quirky "vacation fusion" menu and a long list of craft tiki cocktails, it sounds to be something the likes of which Tacoma never has seen. Here's a story I wrote Oct. 2 with a sample menu. Here's a story I wrote in September when the duo announced they would open Tacoma Cabana.
