Aviateur French Diner is now open in downtown Tacoma at 1498 Pacific Ave.
The restaurant is from Bertrand Young, who has operated the French bistro La Creme Brulee in Steilacoom for eight years. Aviateur will be open for dinner and bar service Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but will be closed Sunday and Monday. Dinner and bar service will resume Tuesday-Saturday next week (See hours below).
The full-service bar offers a bar and happy hour menu. Young said by phone he intends to serve lunch, but not in the immediate future. The outdoor patio, which seats about 30, also eventually will open for service.
Diners should expect a French bistro menu with dinner items around $20-$40. Young said he expected beef bourguignon, priced in the mid-$20s, to be a popular menu item. The core menu includes about a dozen entrees supplemented by a frequently changing specials sheet.
Never miss a local story.
The restaurant operates in the second-story restaurant space that has been vacant almost as much as it's been occupied. It formerly was occupied by Zara Mediterranean from 2011-2012 and Sea Grill from 2005-2009. The 105-seat restaurant will feature a similar floor plan and the same decor as Zara for the time being, but Young said he intends to make changes to the decor later on.
Young opened his French bistro in Steilacoom after moving to the Northwest for his wife’s military assignment. Aviateur is a second restaurant for Young, who will continue to operate La Creme Brulee in Steilacoom. That restaurant is open for dinner service Thursdays-Saturdays. Find La Creme Brulee at 1606 Lafayette; 253-589-3001.
The chef de cuisine at Aviateur is Christophe Durliat. The pastry chef is Amber Maxwell and Robin Boireau is head bartender.
