Babblin’ Babs Bistro closed its Proctor neighborhood breakfast-and-lunch cafe in December with the intention of moving to Lakewood by this summer. However, the restaurant will not open in the Gravelly Lake Drive space that was planned for the new Babblin’ Babs.
Owners William and Shannon Mueller said they lost an investor, which left a restaurant financially impossible in the space formerly home to Kimberly’s. They had intended to more than double the space of the new restaurant from the 900 square feet they occupied in Proctor. They opened Babs in 2006 as a 14-seat eatery in a small storefront between a salon and locksmith. That location is planned to become part of The Proctor (read more in this Dec. 11 story by TNT reporter Kathleen Cooper).
Shannon Mueller said the family is taking a “see where life takes you” approach. They’re still planning to reopen Babs, but they have to find a building that meets their criteria and finances. They’re looking at spaces and talking with those who have restaurants for sale.
They’ll take this time to plan the next step of reopening Babblin’ Babs, a cafe I admire for its quirky-named menu items and finely-tuned regional American breakfast dishes. For now, William Mueller is interviewing for cooking positions and Shannon Mueller has secured work in a cafe. Check for updates at the restaurant’s Facebook page.
