Tacoma's X Group Restaurants got its first whiff of mobile cooking during the last two Moveable Feasts. Now the company is going mobile on a more permanent basis with its Mobile Food Command Center. The truck debuted last week. I like the truck's logo, "In butter, we trust."
For now, the food truck is serving a menu of Mexican street eats from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays just outside Engine House No. 9, the restaurant owned by X Group, along with neighboring Asado and Masa. The company also owns Choripan, the casual cafe at Tacoma’s Museum of Glass. Check out the truck's menu below.
X Group’s Mobile Food Command Center was actually just that. It served once as a command center for former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley. This from X Group executive chef Joel Mertens, via email, “When it came to us it was set up as a mobile office with printers, phones, a little kitchenette, and a restroom. I did a little internet research and found that the mayor had commissioned some mobile community outreach units.”
Mertens said the company bought the truck about a year ago, ripped out the interior and built it back out. Find the truck's Facebook page here.
Never miss a local story.
Speaking of mobile food - I'll have details soon on a new mobile food truck gathering this July in Tacoma; and Moveable Feast has announced a new date for this year's mobile food truck meetup - Sept. 13. Details here.
