Rape by a stranger is rare, but Pierce County prosecutors say the case of Shamarr Derrick Parker fits the description.
Parker, 33, faces charges of first-degree rape and kidnapping. He was arraigned Wednesday in Pierce County Superior Court, where he entered a plea of not guilty. Bail was set at $1 million.
The charges stem from a Dec. 19 incident in Tacoma. The alleged victim was 17.
She was waiting for a bus when Parker offered her a ride in his car, court documents say. The girl refused, and walked down an alley to avoid him. Parker followed in his car, got out and held a knife to the girl’s throat, the charges state.
He forced the girl into the back seat of his car and tied her hands behind her back, according to the documents.
“Don’t panic and I won’t stab you,” he reportedly said.
After driving around for a few minutes, Parker stopped, searched through the girl’s coat and purse and took her money – a $10 bill – according to the court records. He raped her, then asked where she lived, the records state.
The teen pressed her fingers against the car window glass, hoping to leave prints behind.
She told Parker she lived near a gas station. Parker drove there and dropped her off, the charges say.
The girl later described the car and the license plate to Tacoma police, who traced the vehicle to a Tacoma address. The car was registered to Parker’s mother, who said she would tell her son that police wanted to talk to him.
On Dec. 26, six days later, Parker called a detective and said he wanted to give his side of the story, according to the court records. He promised to call again, but didn’t. Charges were filed Dec. 31, along with a bench warrant.
Parker was arrested and booked Tuesday.
Court records show Parker has prior convictions: three counts of second-degree assault in 1996, unlawful gun possession in 1999 and 2003, and a pair of drug-related convictions in early 2008.
The latter charges led to a 12-month jail sentence. Parker was still under state community supervision at the time of the alleged kidnapping and rape.
