Student-created mural depicts potential paths for careers

Lauren Littleton, program director of Two Waters Arts Alliance’s “Artists in Schools,” and Chris Bronstad, a Key Peninsula Middle School art and science teacher, recently teamed up on an after-school art club project. It involved the freely expressed creations of students from all KPMS grade levels who painted a mural for the school’s commons.

Kids' Corner: Festival broadens students’ exposure to other cultures

Something caused me to miss a great cultural-exchange event last month at Artondale Elementary School. But, thanks to Artondale Principal Jacque Crisman, Marita Paly of the Associates of Cultural Exchange and Mandy Afrassiabi, an Artondale PTA board member and parent of two children at the school, we have photos and comments from several who participated in what was clearly a delightful experience.

I could hardly believe her when Key Peninsula Middle School science teacher Phyllis Isbell told me her kids were eating fresh lettuce, broccoli and even strawberries from a small, state-of-the-art garden they'd created on the school campus.

I'd barely finished reading news stories of poaching elephants in Africa when Gig Harbor High School photography teacher Beth Watson asked if I'd be interested in meeting students who were working on "Art for Elephants," a project to save the pachyderms.
