It is horrible whenever an incident such as the one at the Boston Marathon occurs. However, what amazes me is that, despite the raging politics that continue endlessly about topics such as marijuana legalization and gay marriage, despite how mad and angry we can become toward each other when we both just want things to be better, and despite the fact that we never quite seem to get along, we all unite when we must in order to help those most affected.

Pierce Transit finds itself caught between a rock and a hard place. That much was obvious at Thursday's Public Affairs Forum headlined by Lynne Griffith, the agency's chief executive officer, and Derek Young, a member of the Gig Harbor City Council who sits on the Pierce Transit board.
