Published: 05/14/13 21:43:30

The biggest party of the year — the annual Maritime Gig Festival — is only 17 days away, so it’s not too early to begin your preparations for a weekend of family fun, education and entertainment.

Grandparents should have right to petition court for visitation

Published: 05/14/13 21:43:23

We at Grandparents Rights of Washington State (GROWS) have been working very hard for the past several years to get legislation passed to give good, loving and caring grandparents the right to petition the court for visitation with their beloved grandchildren when the grandparents are unreasonably being kept from them.

Boston Marathon bombing will be replaced by understanding

Published: 05/14/13 21:43:23

It is horrible whenever an incident such as the one at the Boston Marathon occurs. However, what amazes me is that, despite the raging politics that continue endlessly about topics such as marijuana legalization and gay marriage, despite how mad and angry we can become toward each other when we both just want things to be better, and despite the fact that we never quite seem to get along, we all unite when we must in order to help those most affected.

Five years ago, a presidential candidate said she was the best person to have in office to answer that “3 a.m. phone call.”

Skateboarding feature should have showed kids with helmets

Easy solutions absent for Pierce Transit

Published: 05/08/13 11:19:54

Pierce Transit finds itself caught between a rock and a hard place. That much was obvious at Thursday's Public Affairs Forum headlined by Lynne Griffith, the agency's chief executive officer, and Derek Young, a member of the Gig Harbor City Council who sits on the Pierce Transit board.

Filing week: Area offices up for election

Published: 05/01/13 11:30:45

It's almost that time of year again. No, not the annual Puget Sound tradition of hoping — fervently wishing — that warm weather will at long last grace the area, given that we are well into spring and headed toward summer. This weekend will be a sneak peek, we hope.
