Editorial: Our choices in election for city, parks, fire
Published: 11/03/11 09:46:18
In somewhat of a disappointing election season on the Gig Harbor and Key peninsulas this fall most seats that are open for public office will be uncontested there are three races of interest. We endorse Jill Guernsey for Gig Harbor City Council Position 4; Andrew Morrison for Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District Commissioner Position 5; and Randy Stephens for Gig Harbor Fire District 5 Commissioner Position 2.

We attended a debate of the two candidates for Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District Commissioner, Position No. 5, on Oct. 20 sponsored by the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Our vote definitely goes to Andrew Morrison.

Editorial: South Sound 9-1-1 opens up communication
Published: 10/20/11 11:40:50
When police and fire agencies are on their way to the same emergency scene even if theyre already there one common misconception is that they can communicate with one another through their radio systems. But with various radio platforms and frequencies, thats not the case. Among other things, Pierce Countys South Sound 9-1-1 proposal, called Proposition 1 on the Nov. 8 general election ballot, would fix those issues for 99 percent of the county.

Recent earthquakes, tropical storms and flooding on the East Coast and the disastrous tsunami in Japan serve as reminders that an emergency or natural disaster can strike at any time with little or no advance warning.
