Lakewood police guild treasurer accused of theft made $89K in '10

If true, the charges are ugly: a police officer cashing in on the deaths of four colleagues and feathering his nest with shiny toys. Skeeter Timothy Manos, 34, was charged Wednesday with 10 federal counts of wire fraud, involving the theft of at least $151,000 from a charitable fund intended for the families of four Lakewood officers slain in 2009.

The families of three slain Lakewood police officers decided Friday to abandon their claims for damages against Pierce County after the public unleashed a torrent of criticism against them.

At 8:14 a.m. Nov. 29, 2009, four Lakewood Police Department officers were gunned down at the Forza Coffee Co. shop in Parkland, Washington.

Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards were killed as they prepared for their Sunday shifts. Maurice Clemmons, a convicted felon, was identified as the shooter and a massive manhunt was launched.

Clemmons was shot and killed by a Seattle police officer two days later.
