A Lakewood police officer who saw three of his colleagues shot dead Sunday tried to stop the fleeing gunman and might have shot him before being killed at a Parkland coffee shop, authorities said.



At 8:14 a.m. Nov. 29, 2009, four Lakewood Police Department officers were gunned down at the Forza Coffee Co. shop in Parkland, Washington.

Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards were killed as they prepared for their Sunday shifts. Maurice Clemmons, a convicted felon, was identified as the shooter and a massive manhunt was launched.

Clemmons was shot and killed by a Seattle police officer two days later.
