Tacoma’s Japanese Americans board a train at Tacoma’s Union Station on May 17, 1942. Thirty-six hours later they arrived at the Pinedale Assembly Center in California where they waited out the war, their presence on the coast considered a threat to national security. The relocation was peaceful, with uniformed soldiers answering questions and helping with baggage.
