The Boeing Co. has notified 70 employees they may be laid off effective Oct. 24.
The layoffs are part of periodic adjustments to the company’s workforce to match employee numbers with needs in different programs. The fact that 70 workers received layoff notices this week won’t necessarily mean all will be jobless at the end of October. Those receiving the notices may transfer to other jobs within the company if they meet the qualifications.
Boeing is currently advertising some 200 job openings in Washington on its website.
The company’s employment for the year is up 468 workers between the end of January and the end of July. On July 31, Boeing’s Washington workforce totaled 81,920 workers, according to the company. Washington, where Boeing builds most of its commercial airliners, has the largest concentration of employees in the aerospace company.
