Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was recognized Thursday as the nation’s second-most healthful based on the availability of nutritious items on its restaurants’ menus.
According to a survey by dietitians with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, 90 percent of the airport’s restaurants offered at least one cholesterol-free, plant-based, fiber-packed meal. Only Baltimore’s Thurgood Marshall Airport topped Sea-Tac with 92 percent of its eateries offering such a meal.
The healthful meal choices at Sea-Tac ranged from pecan-apple salad at Vintage Washington to steel-cut oatmeal with fresh berries and walnuts at Seattle Seahawks 12 Club.
Third on the committee’s list was Los Angeles International Airport with 88 percent of its restaurants offering healthful meals. At the bottom of the list was Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport with just 52 percent of its dining establishments offering healthful items.
