Every penny counts, and Tacoma-area gas prices are giving drivers a bit of extra change. Average prices in Tacoma dropped 2 cents a gallon in the past week, according to the fuel price monitoring site Gasbuddy.com.
On Monday, the average price in the city was $2.43, with the lowest price of $2.03 found at the Costco on 37th and Steele streets and Arco on Orchard and 56th streets. In Olympia, the lowest price was $2.07 at the Arco station at Martin Way and Nisqually Cutoff Road Southeast, according to Washingtongasprices.com.
Nationwwide, average fuel prices have dropped 5.2 cents per gallon in the past week to $2.20 a gallon, according to a Gasbuddy news release. As of Sunday, prices in Tacoma were 71.3 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago, and are 16.0 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
Jeff Pelton, GasBuddy’s senior petroleum analyst for the Northeast, noted in a news release: “As refineries finish up their planned and in some cases unplanned rounds of maintenance, gasoline should return to the pumps at very high levels. That, coupled with the lower demand that comes with the fall season, should push November retail prices to fall another 10 to 12 cents.”
